Z-Loy™ AquaMetal ZVI + Sodium Sulfite as Deoxygenating Agent

An alternate, fast-acting option to using Z-Loy™ Pre-Treat coarse iron bags is to add a low concentration of Z-Loy™ AquaMetal ZVI (0.5 g/L) and sodium sulfite (0.1 g/L) to the water storage / conditioning tank. This combination is much faster acting than Z-Loy™ Pre-Treat bags or many other commercially available deoxygenating methods as well as being cost-competitive.

Method

The following is what happens when adding a source of sulfite and zero valent iron to water containing dissolved oxygen:

Step 1

HSO3 +  ½ O2  →  SO4-2

Sulfite  +  Oxygen   →  Sulfate

Step 2

SO4-2  +   Fe0  →  FeS2

Sulfate  +  Iron   →  Iron Sulfide
